63 Pitfield Street, Hoxton, N1 6BU
The old GnV, I bloody love this place, I love it so much I worked here for almost 2 years, managing the pub in my time there, only stopping when I fell pregnant and planned to go to Australia (Which has yet to happen, on account of the old pandemic). Settled in the heart of Hoxton, just by Old St station, this pub has seen so much change over the decades and has retained its proper pub values and interior while adapting with a fresh refurb. Apart from that, the people that bring it to life are always so eccentric and quirky, offering skill and artistry to their role inside that it is never a dull moment. They are always made up of very creative, warm and approachable people, and the pub is lucky that they always care about the place.
Summer time is wonderful here (as with any pub) and the outdoor space with a pint and pizza are just what the doctor ordered (lots of table space). Come winter time you can snuggle up on the chesterfields in front of the open fire with a glass of red, a spicy pizza and a Tuesday quiz (yes please).
Though they are a free house, they hold an imperial choice of beer and spirits with ties to breweries near and far under the umbrella of Fullers Brewery. The team is a think tank and it seems they are always coming up with new ways to make selling alcohol creative and fun as well as creating events and keeping the pub interesting.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT get me started on the pizza. In my days working there I could have (and did) eaten two pizzas a day. They were that good. Forget the sloppy, overly saucy monstrosities you are familiar with, Sodo do it right and dang nabbit do they do it well. Do yourself a favour and go in tomorrow and have a Wicker Man paired with a pint of neck oil, you will be refreshed and impressed.
From the lovely locals to the brilliant team, 7/7, I really love this place, pop in and see for yourself. Like any good pub, I will let the photos do the talking.
I really must pop by again soon.
Christmas Carols at the pub, an absolute tradition, the best fun combined with the richest homemade mulled wine.

This is Massimo, one of the very talented chefs who helps at the pub as well as having his own pizza affairs and business.
I spent christmas one year with some of the pizza chefs of the pub, an experience I would certainly recommend. Christmas day began with an espresso early in the morning in the crisp Winter air, followed by the cooking of a christmas roast in Massimo's mobile pizza oven. It became very passionate as they argued in Italian about what the temperature should be based on how they like it, how their mother's cooked it and how it is best. You can see by Alejandro's face, he was not impressed. The food was so delicious and it was paired with all the red wine offered by each of us. I added to my somewhat broken knowledge of Italian and said some very inappropriate things by accident when I was trying to say I like goats cheese.. My Italian Christmas was amazing and I was so lucky to be able to spend it with them. Thank you chefs!

The team and I, on my last day!
Pop by and have a drink. Maybe I will see you there.
